See the future before you build it.
From retail and hospitality to cultural institutions, precincts and events — spaces that perform well for people perform better for business. The gap between design intent and operational reality is where we work.
UrbanID brings together two practices: spatial analytics and architectural design. Whether it's a retail store, a hospitality venue, a cultural institution, a mixed-use precinct or an event, our analytics practice uses live data capture and agent-based simulation to test how spatial configuration, operational logic, staffing and service design interact — understanding how a space performs today, and predicting how it will perform before any investment is committed. Our design practice takes those findings forward, translating them into architecture. Each engagement brings together sector specialists who understand how an operation runs and simulation scientists who know how to model it — qualitative expertise calibrating quantitative outputs.
We work with owners, operators, and designers to validate the assumptions that sit underneath their decisions: whether a layout can support the service model, whether staffing levels hold under peak demand, where throughput breaks down and at what cost, and what changes would actually move the dial. The findings become a Forward Brief — a spatial and operational foundation that designers, architects, and in-house teams use to guide and validate their next decisions.
Workshops, analysis, and identification of the right expertise and technologies to address a client's challenge and define the project's strategic direction.
A 3D simulation environment using real-world datasets to test design options, evaluate operational scenarios, and refine outcomes — distilled into a design brief ready for architects or in-house teams.
Design documentation for implementation, from concept through to contract drawings, with construction design oversight where required.
Test and validate options virtually before committing to build.
Deliver high-performing, future-ready designs.
Show stakeholders exactly what to expect with visual simulations and performance forecasts backed by data.

Your single point of contact for strategy, simulation, and design.
The data tells you where you are on the curve. You decide where you want to operate.
Strategy begins with a discovery workshop where our sector specialists — design, operational and simulation — collaborate with client stakeholders to define the objectives, typology and operating context to be investigated, and agree the parameters, operational brief and deliverable outputs required. Alongside this, we receive the proposed or existing site footprint, available data, and review spatial conditions including services, access and egress. From this we develop a Return Brief that confirms the approach — whether live data capture, simulation, or both — and the terms, agreed by all parties before work begins.
Where a space is proposed, or a change is being tested before it is committed, a 3D virtual environment is built to represent process and flow. It is populated with agents — visitors, staff and equipment — each coded with realistic behaviours, probabilities and constraints specific to the operation being modelled. We run scenarios across low, typical and peak conditions, with outputs including occupancy and utilisation, throughput across service periods, staff flow and resource loading, and an indicative revenue envelope. The model is stress-tested and sensitivity-tested, run many times so that findings reflect a realistic range of outcomes rather than a single fixed answer. Where live capture has been run, it provides the baseline the model is calibrated against.
Where an operating venue is in place, sensors are temporarily installed across the space, positioned for the coverage the brief requires and connected by an electrician. Over a period of two to four weeks they record real occupancy and movement, capturing how the space actually performs across typical and peak conditions. The data is cleaned, structured in the secure cloud, and built into a digital twin of the floor: a measured baseline of the operation as it runs today.
Findings are synthesised into a Forward Brief, drawing together captured data, simulation outputs, or both, with sector insight to interpret what the data is telling us, identify where the operation is robust and where assumptions carry risk, and present options for the client to act on. Prospective next steps sit alongside the findings as a platform for the next decision.
